The figure of the girl has somber, downcast eyes and a unique braided hair style.
This is a Terracotta bust of unknown age.
It appears to be glazed and brushed, it is hand formed into a mold and then fired in a kiln. Made in Italy.
No chips, cracks, or holes.

A portrait of a young girl in marble by the French Sculptor Jacques Saly. Versions of this bust survive. These include another marble version, thought to be the original (in a private collection), and other versions in terracotta, bronze, etc.
Saly's bust has enduring appeal and has been frequently copied, including in the nineteenth century.
Jacques François Joseph Saly, more usually known as Jacques Saly (1717-1776) was born in France.
There has been some debate about the identity of the sitter, but they are mostly theories and her identity remains unknown.
